Jamkhandi CMC Demolishes Illegal Encroachments in Rahmat Nagar

In a targeted enforcement drive against public space encroachments, officials from the Jamkhandi City Municipal Council (CMC) demolished more than seven residential structures built illegally over public roads and drainage channels in Rahmat Nagar, Jamkhandi. The clearance operation was carried out to facilitate upcoming road renovation, drainage restoration, and smooth traffic movement for local residents. According to Jamkhandi CMC Commissioner Jyothi Girish, municipal authorities had previously conducted a thorough survey in Rahmat Nagar to identify unauthorized structures obstructing public right-of-way. Official notices had been served to the property owners instructing them to clear the encroachments voluntarily. However, after building owners failed to cooperate with municipal directives, civic authorities proceeded with heavy machinery to execute the demolition. Civic officials noted that illegal structures on stormwater drains cause localized waterlogging during rains, while road encroachments create severe traffic bottlenecks in residential quarters. Commissioner Girish emphasized that this action is part of an ongoing town-wide effort to clear public land. Future drives will target unauthorized sheds near the Hindu cremation ground along with illegal compounds along major transit routes in Jamkhandi. Revenue Officer Yellappa Bidari and CMC Engineers Kusuma Sopadla, Somu Devaramani, Amit Yelakara, and Sadashiv Hanamagollar participated in the operation. For residents of Jamkhandi taluk, the municipal drive reflects a strict enforcement of civic planning regulations. While affected owners face property loss, neighborhood residents and commuters welcome the clearing of congested lanes, expecting improved stormwater drainage and smoother vehicle flow across the area.
