Mangaluru-Bengaluru Train Services Fully Restored After Landslide Disruptions in Ghat Section

Normal passenger train services between Mangaluru and Bengaluru have fully resumed, including night train operations, bringing significant relief to commuters and the region's connectivity. The services had been suspended for two days following multiple landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains in the challenging Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya Road Ghat section. The disruptions occurred on Saturday night, leading to the accumulation of mud, boulders, and debris on the railway tracks. South Western Railway (SWR) authorities initiated a swift and extensive restoration effort. Relief trains, engineering personnel, JCB excavators, and other heavy machinery were deployed to the affected sites, working tirelessly around the clock to clear the massive amounts of debris. Engineers also undertook crucial work to stabilize the vulnerable slopes by reinforcing embankments with sandbags, ensuring long-term safety. Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal confirmed that the tracks were certified fit for operations on Monday evening, specifically at 7:25 PM, following thorough technical assessments and safety inspections. A trial engine run was successfully conducted to further verify the stability of the restored section before regular passenger services were allowed to recommence. While a temporary speed restriction of 10 kmph has been imposed on the repaired stretch as a precautionary measure, normal schedules are expected to be fully restored gradually. This restoration is critical as the Bengaluru-Mangaluru line serves as a vital transport corridor linking Karnataka's capital with its coastal districts and neighboring Kerala, significantly impacting trade, tourism, and daily commute.
