Mangaluru Fishing Harbour Modernization Project Shows Significant Progress Under PMMSY

The modernization and upgradation of the Mangaluru Fishing Harbour is moving forward, with the project now reporting a 25% physical completion rate. This significant infrastructure development, sanctioned under the Central Government's flagship Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in 2024, has an estimated cost of ₹37.47 Crore. The Central Government's share in this project amounts to ₹22.48 Crore. The Department of Fisheries, Government of India, has been actively supporting fisheries development in Karnataka, releasing a total of ₹126.01 Crore for various projects in the state between 2023-24 and 2026-27, which includes funding for this specific harbour project. The Mangaluru Fishing Harbour modernization is designed to substantially improve the operational capacity and efficiency of the harbour. Upon its full completion, it is expected to provide enhanced berthing facilities for up to 1600 fishing vessels. This expansion and technological upgrade are anticipated to directly benefit approximately 18,000 fishers and other associated stakeholders within the local fisheries sector, bolstering their livelihoods and contributing to the region's economic growth. The ongoing progress underscores the government's commitment to strengthening the fishing infrastructure and supporting the vibrant fishing community of Mangaluru and the broader Dakshina Kannada district.
