MP Brijesh Chowta Directs Strict Implementation of PM-RAHAT Scheme in Dakshina Kannada

Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament, Capt. Brijesh Chowta, recently held a crucial meeting with health and police department officials, alongside representatives from major hospitals in Mangaluru, emphasizing the stringent implementation of the Prime Minister-Road Accident Victims' Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) scheme. The MP issued a strong warning against hospitals that either refuse admission or delay treatment for road accident victims under this vital central government initiative. The PM-RAHAT scheme, launched by the Central government in 2025 and subsequently adopted by the Karnataka State government in February 2026, aims to provide free, cashless emergency medical care up to ₹1.5 lakh for a maximum of seven days to road accident victims, irrespective of their socio-economic background. This initiative is designed to eliminate fear and hesitation among the public in admitting accident victims to hospitals during the critical 'golden hour,' thereby significantly reducing fatalities. During the meeting, Capt. Chowta directed the District Health and Family Welfare Officer to conduct regular meetings with hospitals across all taluks to monitor compliance. He stressed the importance of maintaining systematic data on beneficiaries and holding monthly review sessions to track the scheme's progress. Furthermore, he urged for increased public awareness campaigns at the hospital level, ensuring close coordination between health and police departments to maximize the scheme's reach and effectiveness in saving lives. Hospitals are mandated to upload patient details to the eDAR portal within 24-48 hours of admission for seamless processing of claims.
