NITI Aayog Launches PACT and ZET Marketplace to Accelerate Electric Freight Adoption

NITI Aayog Member Rajiv Gauba launched the Platform for Aggregating Clean Transport (PACT) and the Zero Emission Truck (ZET) Marketplace during the 5th e-FAST India Summit 2026 in New Delhi on September 7, 2026. The dual platforms aim to tackle major commercial barriers holding back heavy-duty electric vehicle adoption in India, including high financing costs, fragmented logistics operators, and a lack of coordinated corridor charging infrastructure. Although heavy-duty trucks account for only 3 to 4 percent of India’s overall vehicle fleet, they contribute to more than one-third of the transport sector’s total carbon emissions. With roughly 70 percent of domestic freight moving by road, accelerating the transition to zero-emission trucks is critical to achieving India's Net Zero target by 2070. PACT consolidates freight demand from major shippers, e-commerce firms, and logistics providers, creating clear demand visibility along key freight corridors. Meanwhile, the B2B ZET Marketplace connects truck original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), fleet operators, charge point operators, and clean-tech startups to streamline commercial contracts. By leveraging demand aggregation, blended financing models, and corridor-based projectization, the initiative seeks to make electric heavy-duty vehicles commercially viable and scale up clean freight mobility across the nation.
