To prevent rural residents from traveling long distances to access medical care, three Mobile Health Units (MHUs) were launched in the Sanduru constituency on September 3, 2026. The initiative, funded under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program of JSW, was formally inaugurated by Sanduru MLA Annapurna Tukaram. During the event, an annual schedule calendar outlining planned visits across 90 villages in the constituency was officially released.
The mobile health units are designed to deliver primary healthcare and basic medical diagnostic tests directly to village residents. Each unit operates with a dedicated healthcare team comprising an MBBS doctor, a pharmacist, a laboratory technician, a social mobiliser, and a driver-cum-attendant. The units will visit designated villages according to the pre-published schedule, conducting on-site health check-ups, providing necessary medications, offering medical consultations, and running health awareness drives.
The initiative is expected to significantly benefit senior citizens, women, children, and families living in remote rural pockets of Sanduru taluk who face transportation hurdles in reaching primary health centers or hospitals. Local residents and community leaders have welcomed the project as a critical boost to rural healthcare infrastructure in the mining-belt district of Ballari.
