On the momentous occasion of India's 80th Independence Day, state-owned telecommunications provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has rolled out a comprehensive array of digital initiatives and customer-centric offers, signaling a renewed commitment to advancing the nation's digital landscape. The announcements focus on significantly boosting connectivity, enriching digital services, and making both broadband and entertainment more accessible to a wider populace. A cornerstone of these initiatives is the substantial expansion of BSNL's 4G network, with orders placed for over 26,300 new Base Transceiver Station (BTS) sites nationwide. This expansion, coupled with an optimized existing 4G infrastructure, is built on a fully indigenous, 5G-upgradable technology stack, aligning strongly with the 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' objectives.
Among the key customer offerings, BSNL introduced the 'Re 1 Freedom 2.0' plan, providing new mobile users with 1 GB data per day, 100 SMS daily, and unlimited voice calls for 24 days at a nominal cost. For broadband users, the 'Fibre Freedom Plan' offers speeds up to 200 Mbps, 5,000 GB monthly data, and access to over 25 premium OTT platforms for Rs 1,111 per month. Furthermore, BSNL has revamped its mobile application to 'BSNL Selfcare New', available on Android and iOS. This updated app integrates an AI chatbot, voice search, multi-account management, and features for prepaid recharges, bill payments, complaint tracking, and fibre booking. It also provides free access to approximately 500 live TV channels via 'BSNL Free Entertainment TV' powered by Tango TV. In a strategic move to foster domestic manufacturing, BSNL has partnered with Polycab to produce telecom and networking equipment like cameras, Optical Network Terminals (ONTs), and routers, utilizing a Hardware-as-a-Service (HaaS) model to reduce upfront investment and bolster self-reliance in the telecom sector. These integrated efforts underscore BSNL's pivotal role in furthering India's digital transformation journey.
