Global IT services major HCLTech has launched a state-of-the-art Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru, investing ₹185 crore to boost chip testing, validation, and failure analysis capabilities. Spanning 40,000 square feet, the new facility includes 25,000 square feet of Class 10K and Class 1K cleanrooms designed to handle complex post-silicon engineering tasks.
The laboratory is equipped with advanced automated test equipment, probes, qualification chambers, and diagnostic tools from international technology providers including Teradyne, Advantest, Keysight, Tektronix, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. It aims to support the complete lifecycle from initial design specifications to finished semiconductor parts under HCLTech's Spec2Parts model. The facility will perform electrical validation, automated chip testing, reliability qualification, and failure analysis using optical microscopy, electron microscopy, and focused ion beam systems.
Speaking at the inauguration, Hari Sadarahalli, Corporate Vice President and Global Head of Engineering and R&D Services at HCLTech, stated that the facility reinforces India's growing leadership in semiconductor innovation. The lab is set to obtain global quality certifications such as ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AS 9100 for aerospace, and ISO 13485 for medical devices, serving both domestic and international enterprise clients.
This strategic investment directly addresses critical infrastructural gaps in India's domestic semiconductor ecosystem by enabling local chip qualification and accelerating time-to-market for hardware startups and established electronics manufacturers.
