Karnataka Leads India in Semiconductor Support with 73 Chip Tape-Outs, Reports MeitY

Karnataka has cemented its position as India's premier semiconductor design hub, according to official data released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Under the national ChipIN initiative, the state has provided support to 81 organisations and successfully facilitated 73 chip tape-outs. This represents the highest level of semiconductor design output among all Indian states. The ChipIN Centre, established at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), provides essential semiconductor design infrastructure, including Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, hardware resources, and intellectual property cores. Karnataka registered an impressive 88 lakh hours of EDA tool usage, highlighting the intense research and product development activity taking place within its technology ecosystem. Tamil Nadu ranked second with 33 tape-outs across 79 organisations, while Telangana followed with 28 tape-outs. This achievement reflects the success of Karnataka's targeted policies to support deep-tech innovation and semiconductor startups under programs such as the Chips to Start-up (C2S) Initiative and Design Linked Incentive (DLI) schemes. With the Union Cabinet approving Semicon 2.0 with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore, Karnataka's strong foundation in chip design places it in a primary position to drive India's semiconductor self-reliance and global competitiveness.
