Hebbal Lake Tunnel Project Receives Conditional Clearance for Bengaluru Traffic Decongestion

The Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority (KTCDA) has recently given its conditional nod to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for constructing a crucial tunnel through 3.3 acres of the Hebbal Lake premises. This decision, announced on August 2, 2026, is a significant step towards alleviating the severe traffic bottlenecks plaguing the Hebbal Junction and surrounding areas of Bengaluru. The tunnel is designed to connect Hebbal Junction with the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) quarters on Ballari Road, a route notorious for its heavy congestion during peak hours. In its approval, the KTCDA emphasized a stringent set of environmental safeguards to minimize the project's ecological footprint.
