India and Brazil Forge Stronger Ties in Telecommunications and ICT Through New MoU

India and Brazil have officially cemented their commitment to advancing digital cooperation by signing a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the fields of telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The agreement was formally executed on August 21, 2026, during the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting and the BRICS ICT Track Meeting held in Pune, India. Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia represented India, while Brazil's Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho, signed on behalf of his nation. This bilateral pact aims to foster digital innovation, bolster digital infrastructure, and promote technological collaboration across a spectrum of strategic and emerging technologies. Key areas of focus under the MoU include Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G and 6G technologies, Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN), the Internet of Things (IoT), Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs). Beyond these cutting-edge technologies, the cooperation also extends to crucial aspects such as universal connectivity, cybersecurity, digital public infrastructure, capacity building, and the exchange of best practices. The MoU establishes a structured framework for regular information exchange, shared experiences, and mutual learning between the two nations, reinforcing their dedication to creating a secure, inclusive, and resilient digital ecosystem. This collaboration is particularly significant as India holds the BRICS Chairship in 2026, with a strong emphasis on digital transformation and trusted technology. The agreement is expected to facilitate knowledge sharing and joint research, ultimately contributing to a more connected and technologically advanced future for both India and Brazil.
