India Bolsters Tech Landscape with Karnataka's Pioneering AI University and Chhattisgarh's New Electronics Hub

India is witnessing a robust expansion of its technology and digital infrastructure, marked by two recent pivotal government initiatives. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced plans to establish India's first public Artificial Intelligence (AI) university in Bengaluru. This ambitious project aims to integrate AI education from Class VI in all state schools through programs like 'AI Akshara Abhiyana' and 'Coding Gurukul', preparing the youth for future technological demands. The university, planned as a 100-acre hub in Bengaluru with regional campuses in cities like Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru, and Mysuru, will feature an AI Hub for startups, enterprises, and academic research, with certificate courses commencing by January 2027. Concurrently, the Central Government has given its nod for an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) in Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh. Approved by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), this cluster is projected to attract investments exceeding ₹3,000 crore and generate approximately 9,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The EMC 2.0 project, with an estimated cost of ₹432.08 crore and central assistance of ₹210.56 crore, will be developed over 306 acres by the Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC). It will provide modern industrial infrastructure, including ready-built factory spaces, power, and water supply, to support electronics manufacturing units. Four anchor companies from the semiconductor, electric vehicle (EV), and smart electronics sectors have already expressed interest. These twin developments underscore India's commitment to fostering a skilled workforce and strengthening domestic technology manufacturing, aligning with the 'Make in India' and 'Digital India' visions.
