Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a significant interaction with the founders and CEOs of 20 burgeoning Indian space startups at Seva Teerth, New Delhi, on August 21, 2026. During the engagement, the Prime Minister lauded the audacious spirit of these young entrepreneurs for venturing into the demanding domain of space technology and assured them of the government's unwavering support. He underscored India's potential to develop a robust, innovative, and commercially viable model for the global space sector.
Modi encouraged the startups to broaden the application of their space technologies beyond conventional uses, suggesting integration into crucial sectors like agriculture, environment, education, and daily life to enhance societal well-being. He highlighted that many nations either lack the capacity or the inclination to invest heavily in the space sector, presenting a unique opportunity for India to solidify its global standing. The Prime Minister urged the creation of an ecosystem where India becomes the go-to destination for global talent, companies, and investment in space.
The participating startups showcased a diverse range of innovations, including advancements in rockets, reusable semi-cryogenic launch vehicles, satellites, avionics, advanced propulsion systems, space debris removal, defence intelligence, and AI-powered weather and climate solutions. The leaders expressed gratitude for the government's reforms, which have significantly opened up the space sector to private participation since 2020, fostering rapid indigenous technological development and attracting international interest. Modi also suggested closer collaboration between space companies and other organizations, such as environmental groups for space debris management and agricultural universities for farming solutions, as well as engaging with Atal Tinkering Labs to inspire future innovators.
