Arabhavi MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi Advocates Fixed Retirement Age for Politicians at Mudalgi Event

During the taluk-level Teachers' Day celebration held at the Government Higher Primary School in Patagundi village of Mudalgi taluk, Arabhavi MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi advocated for introducing a fixed retirement age limit for politicians. Drawing a parallel with government servants and school teachers who retire upon reaching 60 years of age, Jarkiholi emphasized that elected representatives, including MLAs and MPs, should also be bound by a statutory retirement age limit. He suggested that setting a retirement age threshold between 65 and 70 years for politicians would allow emerging youth leaders to step into political roles and take on leadership responsibilities. Reflecting on his own political career, Jarkiholi noted that having crossed 60 years of age, he would be among the first to voluntarily step aside if such a law were passed by Parliament or state legislatures. He stressed that senior leaders must proactively make way for younger generations to enter public service with fresh energy. The event was attended by local taluk administrative officers, education department officials, public representatives, and teachers from across Mudalgi taluk. Jarkiholi's remarks have sparked active discussions among political circles and local residents throughout Belagavi district on the need for electoral reforms and youth inclusion in governance.
