Protest Held in Kamalapura Taluk Over Desecration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Portrait in Chengata Village

Outrage erupted in Chengata village of Kamalapura taluk, Kalaburagi district, following the desecration of a portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by unknown miscreants. According to local residents, the portrait was intact late on the night of September 8, 2026. However, on the morning of September 9, villagers discovered that the portrait had been torn and damaged, sparking widespread anger among the community and local activists. In response to the act, members of Dalit organizations, including the Kalaburagi District Unit of Ambedkar Seva Samiti and the Kamalapura Taluk Unit of Bhim Army, gathered in Chengata village alongside local residents to stage a protest. Demonstrators blocked the road and raised slogans, demanding immediate identification and strict punishment for those responsible for hurting community sentiments and attempting to disrupt social peace in the taluk. Police officials from the local station arrived at the protest site to calm the situation. Following assurances of immediate action, police took swift measures and arrested a suspect linked to the incident. Authorities informed the protestors that a formal case has been registered and an investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the act.
