Following growing complaints regarding food adulteration and the use of harmful chemicals in food products, a multi-departmental team conducted a surprise inspection at the weekly market in Moodbidri town. The joint operation involved officials from the Health Department, the Moodbidri Town Municipal Council (TMC), and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
During the raid, inspecting teams thoroughly audited hygiene standards, storage conditions, and safety compliance across various stalls in the market area, including vegetable, fruit, and fast-food outlets. Officials collected multiple samples of raw and prepared food items from several vendors to undergo detailed laboratory testing for adulterants and illegal chemical preservatives.
The inspection team was led by Food Safety Officer Dr. Praveen, TMC Health Inspector Shashirekha, Health Inspector Khadar Saab Nadaf, Food Safety Officer Girish, Health Inspecting Officer Nataraj, and TMC Community Mobiliser Amitha. Authorities cautioned vendors against unhygienic practices and warned that strict legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act would follow if chemical adulteration is confirmed in the laboratory reports. For Moodbidri residents and regular market visitors, the drive provides reassurance about public health standards and quality checks on daily food supplies.
