Case Booked Against Hotel Owner in Lingasaguru Taluk Over Untouchability Incident

A case was registered by the Lingasaguru police against a local eatery owner in Eechanala village of Lingasaguru taluk, Raichur district, following widespread outrage over a video depicting untouchability. The video, which surfaced on social media, showed the hotel owner refusing to hand over drinking water in a glass to a Dalit customer and instead pouring water from a height into his cupped hands. Following the viral video, Social Welfare Department Assistant Director Ravindra Uppara along with departmental officials visited Eechanala village to conduct an inspection. Local residents informed the team that the incident had taken place a few months ago and further alleged that caste-based discrimination persisted in local establishments such as hotels and barber shops in the village. Based on official findings, Lingasaguru police booked the hotel owner under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Civil Rights Act. Raichur Deputy Commissioner Poovitha S stated that a special awareness camp would soon be organized in the village to educate residents and eliminate social discrimination. Local residents and community leaders have urged strict enforcement of laws to ensure equality across all public places in the taluk.
