Bengaluru's Chairman's Club Kitchen Shut Down Over Expired Ingredients and Hygiene Lapses

In a major action targeting elite hospitality venues, the Food Safety Wing of Karnataka's Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration shut down and seized the kitchen at Chairman's Club in Sahakaranagar (Dollars Colony), Bengaluru, on September 3, 2026. The raid was conducted following specific directives from Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader to enforce compliance under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. During the special inspection drive, officials discovered 40 kg of expired chilli stored for food preparation. In addition, inspectors seized improperly labelled bread crumbs and sajeera products that failed to comply with mandatory FSSAI packaging guidelines. The inspection team noted glaring hygiene violations in food preparation and storage sections, the alleged use of prohibited artificial food colorings, and improper practices such as storing vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items together. Citing high public health risks, authorities ordered the immediate closure of the club's kitchen until full compliance is achieved. The action signals the state government's intent to strictly regulate fine dining and recreational clubs across Greater Bengaluru.
