The state of Karnataka has taken a significant stride in fostering its technology and startup ecosystem with the launch of Tathyakosh.in, a comprehensive public data discovery platform. Unveiled by the Government of Karnataka's Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (ACSEL Technology Forum) on August 12, 2026, in Bengaluru, the platform aims to address the critical challenge of data fragmentation, which often hinders innovation in India. Tathyakosh.in consolidates over 1.5 million datasets from 458 diverse sources onto a single, searchable interface, making it an invaluable resource for various stakeholders.
Priyank Kharge, Karnataka's Minister for Home, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and E-Governance, emphasized that India's AI aspirations are not solely dependent on talent and computing power but also on the effective utilization of existing vast public data. The platform is designed to make public datasets more discoverable, structured, and user-friendly, thus creating essential infrastructure for researchers, developers, startups, and policymakers to build data-driven applications and solutions.
Tathyakosh.in functions as an open, non-commercial "Digital Public Good" and does not store the datasets itself; instead, it directs users to the original sources, preserving data ownership and provenance. The platform covers 16 critical domains, including health, agriculture, education, and environment, and indexes both Indian and international repositories with India-relevant data. With over 92% of the cataloged datasets being open access and 95% machine-readable, Tathyakosh is set to significantly accelerate data-intensive research and the development of AI-powered innovations across various sectors in Karnataka and beyond.
