The Karnataka government has announced a substantial investment of ₹7,506 crore across 55 new industrial projects, marking a strategic pivot towards diversified economic growth and strengthening its burgeoning technology and startup ecosystem. This massive allocation is projected to create over 28,000 new employment opportunities across various sectors, including advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI), and deep-tech. A significant aspect of this initiative is its "Beyond Bengaluru" strategy, with 41 of the 55 approved projects intentionally situated outside the capital city. This deliberate decentralization aims to spread economic prosperity and foster industrial growth in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, transforming regions like Chamarajanagar, Doddaballapur, and Vijayapura into new industrial hubs.
The investment landscape is diverse, attracting both domestic and foreign direct investment (FDI). Notable projects include electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace and defense, and the development of industrial parks to support large-scale operations. For instance, foreign direct investment proposals from Taiwan, South Korea, Germany, and Japan, collectively worth over ₹314 crore, are set to create hundreds of new jobs. This push aligns with India's broader Digital India vision, which emphasizes leveraging technology to empower citizens and promote innovation nationwide, including in non-metro areas. The state's focus on building robust supply chains in electronics and semiconductors, alongside its capabilities in precision engineering for aerospace, underscores its ambition to be a leader in high-value, automation-based engineering. By expanding its deep-tech and AI capabilities beyond Bengaluru, Karnataka is setting the stage for a more equitable and distributed technological advancement across the state.
